You’d lean towards Chanel for a tailoring theme, as boasted by this year’s MET. That is, Chanel is traditional jacketing and slim pants, practical but with feminine fit.

Play the traditional French house get-up, and you’re flirting with tradition, introducing another feminine layer, and, perhaps, in stepping outside accepted wear, pretending at efficiency.

I mean, look at this bustle, heralding turn-of-the-century daintiness. Out-to-tea, perhaps for a show-off, ultimately devoid of brisk office-wear efficient. By extension, here: the art of inherited wealth.

Dove Cameron. In Diesel ’24.

Dove Cameron stands apart in beige: the flowers spell pretty, nice, by obvious stretch, and the beige, chic. Let’s be 100 though- beige contrasted against painted, voluminous flowers, suggests background moment.

Suits an up-an-coming star, unsure of themselves, but still willing to step into the spotlight, train and all. And a moment for the dark makeup: all femme fatale, which on understated chic, screams character play.

But this look alone proves Dove doesn’t need to play at sexy; but rather requires a dig at confidence. Gucci- hire her- she’s blooming lovely.

Naomi Watanabe. In Acne Studios ’23.

Naomi Watanabe. Style ICON. If eclectic style begins with layering, it ends with Watanabe. Here, Naomi is simultaneously in-your-face but pared down. An auric bright farmhand in chequered top and shorts.

But with those shoes and taffeta-like hair, she’s city-girl Central; the do, interpreted as an imaginative portal, playing in the rustic sands of time. And that jacket over a bright-pink silk, gives star-of-the-bar, gives up-market country.

Overall, a layered, playful look for the people. In artful seams.
